An elementary school in NKY helped 24 students receive glasses. The story starts with many of the parents denying their child had a vision problem, and they refused to go to the eye doctor. They saw going to the doctor as a weakness; however, this started to change. Because the Family Resource Coordinator assisted the families with making appointments, accompanying them to the appointment, and explaining what the doctor was doing during the exam, and how to take care of the new glasses, the parents became more comfortable with their child needing them. Seeing other parents and other kids there helped too. These 24 children are truly better off now, and the parents aren’t as reluctant to visit the eye doctor.
